I’ve been trying to tidy up my dashboards at work because they’ve slowly turned into a wall of numbers that nobody checks. Last week I realized half of the charts haven’t moved in months, and I’m probably tracking things out of habit rather than purpose. For those of you who’ve been through this, how do you decide which metrics actually deserve to stay visible and which ones are better stored away unless needed?
I’m reading through your comments and it reminds me how often tools get cluttered simply because nobody stops to reconsider what still matters. It’s funny how easy it is to overlook the obvious when routines settle in, and then a small reset suddenly makes everything feel more manageable again.
I went through the same thing a few months ago. What helped me was reviewing each metric and asking myself whether it actually influenced any decisions in the past quarter. If it didn’t, I moved it off the main view. I found a few tips on https://usermaven.com/blog/kpi-dashboard that made the process much easier, especially around grouping metrics by goals instead of by department. After doing that, the dashboard finally felt like something I could use without feeling overwhelmed.
