Cleaned out my desk last weekend and found a DualShock 4 from my PS4 days, still holds charge fine. Plugged it into the PC and half my games act like nothing is connected. Some see it, some don't, and Steam does its own thing with it. What software do you lot run to get a PS4 pad working properly on Windows? Free options preferred, I don't play enough to buy
Hey, that “half my games see it, half don’t” vibe is classic DS4-on-Windows chaos. I dug an old DualShock 4 out last year for some indie racing sims and hit the exact same wall—Steam would grab it, other titles acted like it was invisible. What finally fixed it was running DS4Windows (free, open-source) to make the pad emulate an Xbox 360 controller, which pretty much everything recognizes. Grab it here: https://ds4-windows.io/. Key tips: install the ViGEmBus driver it prompts for, tick “Hide DS4 Controller” in settings, and either disable Steam’s PlayStation config support or let DS4Windows handle remapping alone. Once I did that, Assetto Corsa, Rocket League, and even non-Steam launchers all saw inputs instantly.
